A Taste of Love begins at a very fancy and famous restaurant with the talented Ma Yau (Lawrence Ng) as their chief chef. A middle-aged man (Joyce's dad) walked into the restaurant and requested some dishes which causes Ma Yau to know who the person is. Ma Yau cooked those special dishes and brought it out himself. They sat and talked as the man tasted his food and complimented his extreme talent. The man was Ma Yau's life saver really, because when Ma Yau was little, the man would cook a meal for Ma Yau to eat, which eventually made him interested in the profession of cooking.
The story then skipped to 2 years later. Joyce (Flora Chan) received a package from her lawyer about how her dad died and left her 51% of his famous restaurant located on an island around Hong Kong. She went to the restaurant and saw the poor conditions it is now in. She also saw her half-brother (different moms), Har Tou (Lin Feng). He doesn't know that his dad had an affair with another woman and Joyce decides to kept their relationship a secret. Har Tou was about to sell the restaurant but he had only 49%, so her 51% ownership overruled and she said she would run the restaurant. The people with Har Tou were very suspicous why Joyce had 51% of the restaurant, but this phase passed.
The first few days of business were terrible, partly because Har Tou and his worker friends were trying to screw things up hoping she would change her mind to sell the restaurant. Then an elderly worker noted to her that her father once told him that if the restaurant is in trouble, only one person could help change their luck, and his name was Ma Yau. So Flora went back to Hong Kong and searched for Ma Yau at his old workplace. He had quit because the restaurant didn't meet his standards and he had a bad attitude. She then went to his supposingly second job, which he quit too because of the same reasons. She finally found him on an alley selling soup. She tasted it to see if he really had talent, and the soup was delicious.
She asked him to work at the restaurant. He didn't agree at first because he didn't think that her father would give her ownership because he too, doesn't understand that they are father and daughter. Later, he decides to help because of Joyce kindness toward some little kids and also because he promised her that if she could tell him all the ingredients in his soup, he would help her. She got help from Gordon so Ma Yau indeed, kept his promise even when he knows she didn't figure it out herself. After struggling for a small time period, the restaurant improved tremendously since Ma Yau made the famous dishes of the restaurant.
Well Har Tou had a crush on Joyce because she encourages him to try harder even after all the bashing he gave Joyce. Her secret spills and Har Tou was mad and went back to be the guy who just plays around. After some talking with his friends, he decides to accept Joyce and forget the embarrassment. He now works harder and Ma Yau taught him how to cook his father's famous dishes because he had talent in cooking and he wanted to repraise his dead father. Later on, a girl name Candy (Miriam Yeung) came to the restaurant. She ordered a lot of food and when it was time to pay, she found that she dropped her money. Candy is the daughter of a tycoon in Hong Kong and wants to pursue a career in the music entertainment industry. Har Tou made her pay but she didn't have enough money so she ran away. She went back to HK and her father found out that she was lying to him about studying business and economics at the US, and instead she was studying music. Her dad was furious so she left the house and went back to the island. Her dad was so angry that he cut off all her credit cards so she would have to come home. Fate I believe they call it, she worked as the new waitress at the restaurant.
She and Har Tou became friends and ended up dating, but not without some funny moments. Also, Joyce had always had a crush on Lawrence, but he couldn't forget his last girlfriend, Sue (Joyce Tang). Joyce was currently working as a waitress at a famous restarant with Gordon (Joe Ma). Her friend, Esther, has a crushed on Gordon, but Gordon likes Sue but Sue still loves Ma Yau. Anyway, she tried dating Gordon anyhow and she saw Ma Yau while walking and holding hands with Gordon. When she saw Ma Yau, she let go of Gordon. It was a tense moment, but Ma Yau walked away from the scene.
Sue broke up with Gordon because she feels she still loves Ma Yau. Ma Yau now sees that he loves Joyce, but Sue was sick because of stomach problem, probably caused by her love problems. Therefore, Ma Yau dated Sue once again of guilt. Joyce was sort of alright about this and just wanted to win the competition of the finest chefs. His biggest competition would be Gordon, who had also followed and learned fron the King of Cookery. Joyce and Ma Yau had prepared a very unique and delicious dish for the competition, but he ended up using a dish Sue and he created years back because Sue wanted him to. So Gordon ended up winning Ma Yau by one point, only because he didn't cook the dish with "feelings", but the excuse was because of some unfreshness of a logan (like whatever). Later on, Sue found out that Ma Yau doesn't really love her but he loved Joyce so she ran across the street and was hit by a van.
She was rushed to the hospital and was in a coma. Gordon blamed the accident on Ma Yau and Joyce felt guilty so she went on vacation. Candy decides not to pursue her dreams because her daddy had a stroke so she decides to take care of him and the family's business. The restaurant closed because Gordon had forced them to with some business papers. Ma Yau returned to cooked soup in an alley. Joyce miraculously wakes up and opened up a flower shop.
Now another 2 years have passed. Har Tau had masted his father's famous dishes also. Well, The King of Cookery had devised a plan to allow Ma Yau and Gordon settle their differences, which had made a wall between them to become friends. Well from this friendship, the restaurant finally had their GRAND OPENING finally. All the old employees were there except Joyce, but she did come as a famous food critic. She tested the famous dishes and left. Ma Yau chased after her and she told him his food had always been complicated, but now it's simple which made it more delicious and now they both smile and hug. Awwwww.......
